Opening in 1954, Victoria Bridge Club has provided a warm welcome to all bridge players in the greater Wellington region. We are situated at 112 Tinakori Road, Thorndon. The Victoria Bridge Club welcomes new and existing members to come and play.

Beginners lessons

Our Beginner Lessons are a series of twelve lessons where participants have the opportunity to learn and practise the basic Acol bidding system and how to play the cards. This is followed by two further nights of mentored play and then introduction to the Victoria Bridge Club regular Wednesday Junior evening session.
The 2026 series of lessons will be held on Wednesday evenings from 7.30 - 9.00pm starting 18 February and finishing 20 May. If you’d like to know more or sign up, please get in contact with the office manager.

Playing times and grades

Victoria Bridge Club offers a number of playing sessions throughout the week for players to choose from. The following sessions indicate the experience level of those who usually play at them. For all sessions, please contact the session convenor if you need help finding a partner.

  • Monday, 7:30pm, Intermediate

    Monday is for Intermediate grade (and above) players or Junior grade players with some experience who wish to improve their game

  • Thursday, 7:30pm - Gladys Palmer Teams

    This is a year long team event requiring pre-enrolment at the beginning of the year.
    The first Thursday of every month March to November features the Gladys Palmer Teams of Four (with a maximum of five members) the Club’s major teams championship. Players from all levels are encouraged to play in this event, which is scored on both a championship and a handicap basis.
    Team leaders are responsible for finding substitute players however, as a last resort, the Club Manager may be able to help.
